Cylinder Head
The head was just crack-tested and surfaced because valves, guides, seats all looked to be in good order.
After I got it back from Paramount Engineering in Silverdale, I just needed to lap the valves in, then give it a thorough cleaning and reassemble.
There is some slight pitting on the valves and seats, but should clean up okay with a wire-brush and lapping.
The seats and valve sealing faces cleaned up pretty well with the fine grinding paste - good enough for a "budget" rebuild.
Of course, the "no expense spared" way is to reface or replace the valves and have the seats recut - and even have hardened inserts fitted to the exhaust seats, but overall I'm happy with how they finished up.
Frost plug on the back of the head looked fine from the outside ... but when removed you can see that this plug would have started leaking pretty soon
Re-assembled and fitted to the block - its really coming together now. The head bolts are shorter on one side of the head - this is why the block deck had a damaged thread - one of the shorter bolts had been fitted to the wrong side of the head.
Rocker gear and pushrods fitted. The oil feed to the rockers goes up that pipe in the middle and through a brass fitting which is sealed to the rocker shafts by fibre washers.
I initially set the valve clearances fairly loose and will re-set them once the engine has been warmed up thoroughly.
